Flash Humanities' objective is to reach out to PK-12 teachers, staff and administrators to seek another point of connection between PK-12 and higher education, and this is through the case of the humanities. I want to demonstrate how the humanities can become a tool to help public educators, staff and administrators impart the mission and values associated with being lifelong learners. My goal is to help schools think about how to use humanities to reap the intangible (that in reality are quite tangible) benefits that they offer. Starting with some of the most influential people in students’ lives (that is you, public school employees), I want to share small yet deliberate steps that help incorporate the humanities in what we are teaching, whether that be in STEM or in sports.
My objectives are the following:
1. Provide a theoretical, interdisciplinary and (extra-) curricular framework on a variety of topics relevant to the classroom and education
2. Emphasize that teaching pedagogy to students can be just as important as content
3. Explore our roles as educators beyond simply teaching the standards
4. Inform our actions and decisions through what the Humanities can teach us, particularly using philosophy and critical theory
Take a look at the presentation topics to see if there is a topic relevant to your learning experiences.
